Wine of the Week

There's no doubt that some of the best California Cabs are produced in Sonoma's Alexander Valley. Wines like Silver Oak and Jordan come to mind. But think again. This wine may lack some of the opulence of the former and a little of the finely textured softness of the latter, however, Stonestreet has vastly improved over the past several years and offers an excellent value as well. Sourced from estate grown Alexander Mountain fruit, the wine was aged for 12 months in small French-oak barrels. Aromas of ripe, dark fruit, mocha and cedar precede intense flavors of cassis, currants and black cherry, accented by cocoa and a mineral character. Decant for optimum results. Will age gracefully over the next 10-15 years. Great with grilled meats. Where to buy it: Whole Foods Market Uptown, Sav-A-Centers on Carrollton, Clearview and West Esplanade. Where to drink it: GW Fins and CafŽ Milano. (Listings current at press time.)
