Wine of the Week

For five generations, the same family has resided in this magnificent chateau that dominates the southern Rhone landscape. Estate-grown grapes are harvested from vines as much as 100 years old. This wine is a blend of 70 percent Grenache, 15 percent Syrah, 8 percent Mourvédre, 5 percent Cinsault and less than 2 percent Muscardin and Cunoise, and it is aged 12 months in 1- to 3-year-old barrels. Smooth and full-bodied, the wine exudes a rustic yet elegant character with spice-infused dark fruit aromas and chewy red and black berries on the palate and in its lingering finish. It's good with red meats, game and hearty dishes. Where to buy it: Vieux Carre Wine & Spirits, Robert Fresh Markets, Dorignac's, Langenstein's in Metairie and Breaux Mart in Gretna. Where to drink it: Olivier's, K-Paul's, Bon Ton, Tujague's, Pascal's Manale and Vincent's Uptown. (Listings current at press time.)
