Wine of the Week 

A blend of 50 percent each Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, grapes for this wine were sourced from one of Spain's smallest wine denominations, Pla de Bages, in the Pyrenees region. Spanish wine laws dictate that Crianzas must spend a minimum of six months in wooden casks. This wine, aged eight months in French barriques, exhibits intense aromas of ripe plum, cassis and currants with subtle hints of oak, licorice and tobacco. In the mouth, the wine shows big, rich fruit flavors of blackberry and black cherry with chocolate undertones, more woody notes and firm tannins. It improves with decanting and goes well with roast chicken, sausage and beans, tapas, tapenade and Manchego cheese. Where to buy it: Bacchanal and Cellars of River Ridge.
