Wine of the Week

In 1803, the Mittelbach family bought an 11th century monastery situated among terraced hillsides beside the Danube River just west of Vienna. Over the past 200 years, five generations of the family have harvested grapes from premium cru sites and produced high-quality, wonderfully refreshing, gently priced GrÜner Veltliner. The T-26, meaning Tank 26, offers bright, fragrant aromas of citrus, melon, white pepper and an interesting minerality which expands on the palate. The wine's clean fruit flavors are reminiscent of white peach, mango and lime and balance well with a crisp acidity in a lovely, dry lingering finish. It's a very food-friendly wine that's great for sipping or pairing with lighter foods like salads, artichokes, olives, asparagus, steamed shellfish, grilled pork and mild cheeses. Where to buy it: Swirl. Where to drink it: Commander's Palace. (Listings current at press time.)
