Wine of the Week

This wine from the prestigious port producer Dow is indicative of some of the high-quality, value-priced, dry, red, table wines imported from Portugal. A blend of 40 percent each Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz (aka Tempranillo) and 20 percent Tinta Barroca (the grapes used for port), the wine was aged six months in two-year-old American oak. A full-bodied, well-structured wine, the Bomfim's bouquet brims with ripe, dark berry fruit, spice and oak notes. In the mouth, this dense, vibrant wine exhibits concentrated flavors of dark plum, red currant, cassis and black pepper with firm tannins, textured, rustic edges and a long finish. Decant it for best results. It's good with game, smoked and grilled meats, stews and hard cheeses. Where to buy it: Cork & Bottle, Rouses in Uptown, W.I.N.O. and Hopper's Wine & Spirits. Where to drink it: NOLA and Emeril's Delmonico. (Listings current at press time.)
