"It makes it fun to shop," says owner Neil Peyroux. "It works. People use that for a guide. We get a lot of purchases from the Web site because we're pretty much a new retail business."
The Web site evolved hand in hand with the store's transition from a wholesale outlet to a retail business after Hurricane Katrina, he explains, and it functions well in getting the word out about Peyroux's custom-made curtains.
One advantage to shopping online is the ability to order swatches, so customers can look at and feel the fabric in their own home, says Peyroux. The Web site also offers other tools, such as a style library, color psychology and design portfolio to help people decide which designs and colors would work best for their homes and to help them decide how and where to hang their curtains.
Peyroux's regularly has anywhere from 75 to 100 curtain styles in stock all made on site and adds new lines and designs monthly and frequently update its site.
"We shop different mills for what people ask for," says Peyroux. "I listen to clients when they come in and tell me what they want. Usually we have it, but if not, we look for it." The store's newest additions will be a line of silk and linen sheers, popular for summer, as well as new metal and wood hardware in a variety of designs and finishes.
