New Orleans Songwriters Festival

J.D. Souther (pictured) and Don Schlitz, songwriters not nearly as well known as their hits, are among the participants at the New Orleans Songwriters Festival. Souther is behind the Eagles' "Best of My Love" and "New Kid In Town." Schlitz penned "The Gambler" for Kenny Rogers and is a four-time winner of Songwriter of the Year by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), which sponsors the festival. Also on the bill are legendary New Orleans hit-maker Allen Toussaint and familiar face Kyle Turley, now starring in his own "power-country" band. A host of musicians and songwriters headline shows and panels at locations including Tipitina's, Blue Nile, Carrollton Station and others. Visit www.nosongfest.com for schedule. Admission prices vary. — Will Coviello
