the Korean grocery and deli slated to open on St. Claude Avenue, has curbed its plans for the time being, says owner Kayti Chung-Williams.
The announcement comes following health complications suffered by Chung-Williams, who says she’s under doctor’s orders to transition to a low-impact lifestyle for a while.
Chung-Williams underwent radiation treatment last fall for a spinal cord tumor, she said.
Chung-Williams and her husband ran the popular Creole and Korean stand Koreole at St. Roch Market but left the market last year and announced plans to open a brick-and-mortar grocery store and restaurant hybrid on St. Claude Avenue.
The restaurant made the announcement Thursday on their Facebook page:
"After much planning and decision making, we, the Koreole family have decided to halt operations for the time being due to owner, Kayti Williams’ health,”
the statement said. “We were very excited and much anticipating serving our faithful and wonderful customer and community, but we realize that there is a time for everything.”
Chung-Williams said the halt is temporary, and that she hopes to resume plans for the concept in the future.
“We’re definitely sad and have been processing through this transition, but we are hopeful this is not the end of Koreole,” Chung said in an email.
