Another entry in the roster of novel ways Americans have found to either honor or profit from the enthusiasm over the election of President Obama has turned up at Maurice French Pastries.

The Metairie bakery has added to its list of king cake designs a new one dubbed the "Obama King Cake" (pictured at left). There is obviously a patriotic thing going on with the American toothpick flag but the cake's theme is more fully played out in the unusual choice of ingredients. That's chocolate frosting on the top, and inside is a ring of cream cheese. Dark chocolate topping, white cream cheese filling, one of the more unusual riffs on the president's melting pot of a family tree.
