The late edition.

  • Tomorrow from noon to 1 p.m., seventh-grade students from Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary's  Teaching Responsible Earth Education program will wrap up their three-day tenure as acting tour guides at the Alliance for Affordable Energy's BuildSmart Learning Center. The students graduated from TREE's Sunship Earth program, a three-day, outdoor classroom experience.
  • Yesterday, Road Home Builders broke ground on its next generation of homes, the New Suncomony home, the Lower Ninth Ward's first affordable "zero energy" home. Lower Ninth resident Mr. Valentine at 1905 Caffin Ave. will call the energy-efficient, “no energy cost” house a home.
  • According to the Save the Manatee Club, as many as 200 manatees were confirmed dead in 2009 as of May 1. Watercraft deaths totaled 33. Endangered Species Day is May 15, folks. Are you manatee enough to stand up for these guys?
  • The New Orleans Green Crawl kicks off May 17. Print out this map, and visit six locations around town (energy efficient model homes, LEED-certified buildings, recycling centers, farms and more) from noon to 5 p.m., then head to the BuildSmart Learning Center for an after party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • This Friday is Take-Your-Bike-to-Work Day, or Bike-to-Work Day, in conjunction with this week, Bike-to-Work Week (not to be confused with last week's Bike Week), and National Bike Month. Here are some events to look for in Louisiana (and across the country).
  • Comic Sans is not only an abomination of language, it's also a eco-terrorist. Think of how much earth-unfriendly ink has been used to print that font. Birthday invites. Office party flyers. Emails. The list is endless. Stop the violence. Download Ecofont. (It's supposed to cut ink usage by 15 percent by using tiny holes in each letter.)
