We Aren't the World, Part 3: THEY SPEAK

Posted By on Thu, Jun 10, 2010 at 8:37 PM

Wallsend's favorite son, Sting — rainforest activist, tantric practitioner and all-around new-agey environmental guru — breaks the environmentally conscious mega-popstar silence... after being cornered in a Denver museum. He tells the Associated Press: "The problem in the first place is what were they doing drilling that deep without any safeguards? Who allowed that to happen?"

Meanwhile, relevant popular music stars Korn (or K-O-backwards R-N) and Backstreet Boys also made timely, significant statements. Both groups decided to boycott BP by refusing to fill their gratuitous tour buses with BP product. Nick Carter of the boy band of yesteryear says: "I'm devastated by what I've seen first hand and on the news. ... I've always been a marine activist and seeing pictures of oil-covered animals breaks my heart." Maestro?

Also chiming in is bandmate Brian Litrell: "We just played Biloxi last week and I have to tell you people are really worried down there. This boycott is about making a statement, letting people know how we feel and to stand for something."

Yeah, that'll show 'em.

As for Korn, well, here's frontman Jonathan Davis:

The daily images are hard to watch. ... We need to do our part to let BP know there are consequences for causing something like this. We want to send a message to corporations like BP so that they will take more preventative measures in the future.  The more costly their punishment, the more money they will spend to make sure disasters like this don’t happen again. It’s plain and simple capitalism.”

Exactly. Refusing to fuel your fleet of indulgent, gas-guzzling road monsters to take a sideshow act of irrelevant nu-metal garbage across the country is precisely the prick in the lion's paw. "This is the last straw," BP's Tony Hayward will say. "If Korn isn't using our product, then, well, what's the point of it all?"
