How (and how not) to look chic in the summer heat

Posted By on Fri, Jun 10, 2011 at 4:00 PM

You know how sometimes a magazine's cover headlines look so enticing that you shell out five bucks for the issue? And then the article turns out to have only the most tenuous link to the headline? Well, Twitter can be just as misleading. Case in point: this tweet from New York fashion magazine's blog, the Cut:

Hmm. I don't really consider tights and boots a summer wardrobe staple. But I decided to persevere. The next image in the slideshow appeared:

WTF. Opaque black tights? A fur coat? At this point, I realized I'd been the victim of one of the most slippery, nefarious words in journalism, a word that allows uninspired or lazy writers to substantiate just about any claim: some.

Anyway, at least I didn't waste five bucks. But to thank you for clicking this blog post and make it worth your 20 seconds, here are a few ways our current CUE intern, Lindsey Darnell, deals with the heat. "For me, the key to surviving the stifling summer is ventilation — any outfit that acts as a cooling system and makes the most out of a breeze is my best friend," Lindsey says. "I personally prefer loose-fitting items made from breathable fabrics."

Enjoy, and stay cool.
