The 7-minute film above won the 2010 48 Hour Film Project international competition, and was screened in a showcase at the Cannes International Film Festival. It was London's winning film, and it features Martin Freeman, who some may recognize from the British version of The Office.

The 2011 New Orleans competition took place Aug. 12-14. Teams drew a genre out of a hat and had 48 hours to write, shoot and edit a film of between four and seven minutes in length. Competitors range from professionals taking the weekend away from local shoots to UNO film studies students to amateurs. More on the competition here.

This year's crop of films screens Saturday at NOCCA, with nearly 40 films divided into three showcases (4 p.m., 6:30 p.m and 9 p.m.; tickets $10 per screening). Winners will be announced Aug. 30.

Three films swept most of the local awards at last year's competition. All three are after the jump.

UNO grad student Dawn Spatz and a team of UNO students created the mockumentary Pygmy Park.

Reed Daigle's team won best film in the New Orleans 2010 competition for Crazy Stairs.

Jason Waggonspack's team, Trophy Whores, created Trust Bob last year.
