A bourbon toast to 10 years

Posted By on Wed, Oct 3, 2012 at 4:48 PM

Bourbon House

From its start back in 2002, the “bourbon” part of Bourbon House has been about more than just the address for this Dickie Brennan restaurant. It has built itself into the local hub for aficionados of America’s most distinctive spirit, stocking an encyclopedic selection of bourbon and even organizing its own bourbon appreciation club, the New Orleans Bourbon Society.

Fittingly then, to mark its tenth anniversary next week, on Oct. 10 Bourbon House will host a special four-course dinner to debut a 10-year-old, single-barrel bourbon bottled just for the restaurant by Evan Williams.

The event, held in the restaurant’s private dining area, features dishes from chef Darin Nesbit (BBQ shrimp and grits, smoked duck salad, redfish “on the half shell”) with wine pairings, preceded by bourbon cocktails and hors d’oeuvres and ending with a straight pour of the anniversary bourbon served with a dessert tasting plate.

In addition, drinks writer Bernie Lubbers, author of “Bourbon Whiskey — Our Native Spirit,” will lead a tasting during the pre-dinner cocktail hour and share stories about bourbon. Lubbers, who goes by the moniker “Whiskey Professor,” is the official American Whiskey Ambassador for Heaven Hill Distillery, the Kentucky company that makes Evan Williams.

The cost is $75 per person and begins at 6:30 p.m. For reservations, call 274-1814 or email
