The 23rd Annual New Orleans Film Festival gets off to a roaring start with the local premiere of The Paperboy, director Lee Daniels adaptation of Pete Dexter's classic Southern Gothic novel. The Festival serves up a non-stop barrage of world-class films that continue through next Thursday, October 18, at venues across the New Orleans area. Look here for a full schedule of events.

On Sunday the Film Festival serves up the 5th annual "I Love Louisiana Day," which celebrates "the latest work from indigenous filmmakers along with new films from non-native directors passionate about telling Louisiana stories." Highlights include Trailer Park Jesus, which involves a broken-hearted young man, a sheet of acid (as in LSD), a Mississippi trailer park and New Orleans surf rockers The Unnaturals; documentary T-Galop: A Louisiana Horse Story, which explores modern-day horse culture across the state; and a program of short films called "Louisiana Stories" with titles like Eat to the Beat: The Kermit Ruffins Story and Grand Fugue on the Art of Gumbo. How can you resist?
