Burgers have always been popular, but today we live in the midst of a full-blown burger bonanza. Between the “better burger” trend and the proliferation of burgers on otherwise upscale restaurant menus, they’re turning up everywhere.

An event coming up Aug. 18 harnesses this craze for a good cause. Burgers, Bourbon & Beer is a fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank, a local hunger relief organization, and it will feature burgers from 10 local restaurants under one roof. Event judges will name a “best burger” and attendees can vote for a “people’s choice” award.

Second Harvest debuted this event last year, and it proved a big success. Once again it will be held in the Warehouse District at Generations Hall, where each participating restaurant will serve slider-sized renditions of their best burgers, the better for extensive sampling across the field. Bourbon cocktails and various beers from the distributors Glazer’s and Crescent Crown will be paired with each burger and La Divina Gelateria provides dessert. The pay-one-price ticket includes all food and drink.

The restaurant line-up runs the gamut and includes:

Bourbon House
The Company Burger
Martin Wine Cellar
Phil's Grill
Vitascope Hall (inside the Hyatt Regency)
Manning's Eat-Drink-Cheer
Bayou Burger
(a relative newcomer to Bourbon Street and devotee to the theory that whole grilled cheese sandwiches can be burger toppings)

What: Burgers, Bourbon & Beer
When: Aug. 18, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Where: Generations Hall, 310 Andrew Higgins Dr.

Tickets are $35 in advance here. If available, tickets at the door will be $45.
