Pierre the Pelican isn't the only one in town to get a facelift this season. Gott Gourmet, the popular Magazine St. soup, sandwich and salad spot, is revamping their image — and their menu — as well.
If the newly rebranded "GG's Dine-O-Rama" seems like it has something of a 50's diner feel to it, that's not by coincidence. GG's has now expanded into the realm of refined comfort food, and they've given their dining room a vintage vibe to go with its new fare.
According to a press release, "Black and white photos of 1950’s Magazine Street adorn the walls; replicas of old storefront signs hark back to cultural phrases from the era; and vintage table accessories such as salt and pepper shakers complete the new look. These elements harmoniously come together to help create a cool vibe and warm setting."
Executive Chef/Co-Owner Dave Gotter has gone beyond fancy sandwiches with the new menu, which features breakfast, lunch and dinner items. Featured dishes include a crab and brie omelet with a lobster-cognac crème and grilled asparagus, as well as berry-buttermilk pancakes with house-made whipped cream and candied pecans. Lunch and dinner fare includes Panko crusted mozzarella and prosciutto bites, Sriracha and sweet chili-garlic hummus, and sandwiches such as the "Get in My Belly," which incorporates cider-braised pork belly glazed with sweet onion-apple BBQ sauce on toasted ciabatta with sweet & spicy mustard, house pickle chips, fried red tomato, arugula and grilled red onion. That one should be more than a mouthful.
There will also, naturally, be mac and cheese on the menu (this is supposed to be comfort food after all). GG's version features elbow macaroni "tossed in a rich and creamy seven cheese sauce and then topped with toasted truffle-buttered bread crumbs and shaved Parmigiano-Reggiano." As for desserts, be on the lookout for a sweet and savory-sounding pretzel bread pudding and chocolate-peanut butter creme brûlée, as well as a fried apple pie.
GG’s Dine-O-Rama is located at 3100 Magazine at 8th Street, and can be reached at (504) 373-6579. Lunch and Dinner is served daily from Tuesday-Friday, with breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon and lunch from noon to 5 p.m. every Saturday. Brunch is served every Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
