With today's grand opening of Pizza Domenica, Domenica happy hour devotees who are tired of making the late afternoon trek to the CBD now have a much wider window to eat Alon Shaya's much-coveted pizza. Located in the heart of Uptown, the reclaimed wood and chandelier decor is both rustic and refined, with chalkboard menus and tufted, mustard colored benches creating a space that is equally well suited for midday munching and late night snacks.
The bar features a wide selection of craft beers (more than 40 options) and wine, with a smaller cocktail menu for the time being. The Carry Me Away (a breezy cocktail combining honeysuckle vodka and rosemary) is an ideal springtime drink, with the floral notes paying tribute to the flowers finally beginning to blossom outside.
The pizza menu is creative and vast, with several holdover favorites from Domenica (the wild mushroom and clam and garlic, most notably) and a wide range of new pies. The roasted carrot pizza is surprisingly hearty, with soft, tangy bits of goat cheese scattered among sweet, colorful beets and baby Brussels sprouts. The addition of hazelnuts adds an outstanding textural kick, and makes the case for more nuts-on-pizza combinations. The carciofi, which comes equipped with fava beans and mascarpone, also looks to be a standout.
The dessert menu is small but mighty, with Domenica classics from pastry chef Lisa White including the banana zuppa inglese and pistachio crostata.
