Pizza and beer is a classic combination, and New Orleans pizza parlors have embraced craft beer as half of the equation.

Crescent Pie & Sausage Company, which closed its Banks Street location and will reopen on Tulane Avenue, was a pioneer, being among the first restaurants to support the emerging craft beer market. Derek Domingue, Bayou Teche Brewing’s director of sales, say Crescent Pie & Sausage was its first New Orleans draft account in 2009.

Pizza Domenica’s dedication to craft beer goes back to General Manager Stephen Jeffcoat’s stint at Domenica in the CBD. While Domenica has had a consistently diverse and high quality bottle list, the recently opened Pizza Domenica took that one step further and built a 12-tap draft system that focuses on regional and Italian craft beer to pair with wood-fired pizza.

Ancora, the farm-to-table Neapolitan restaurant on Freret Street, has had one of the most interesting draft beer selections in the city for some time. Chef Jeff Talbot and General Manager Bryn Thompson always make sure beers from Louisiana (currently Parish Brewing’s South Coast Amber) are represented as well as American craft breweries such as Green Flash and Lagunitas.

Also on Freret, Midway Pizza boasts an impressive selection of craft brew taps and is very supportive of the local beer scene.

At Pizza Delicious in the Bywater, owners Mike Friedman and Greg Augarten always knew they wanted to have a great beer list to pair with their New York-style pies. The Brooklyn Brewing Brewer’s Select special release beer is always available on draft, and brews from NOLA Brewing, Southern Prohibition, Ommegang and Founders round out the list.

On St. Charles Avenue, Dolce Vita offers a small selection, but it’s locally focused with beers from Tin Roof, NOLA, Parish and Abita. During daily happy hour from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. all beers are $2.50 and pizzas are $10.
