Next week, New Belgium Brewing Company brewer Ken Petroski will visit New Orleans to share sour and barrel-aged beers at The Avenue Pub and Cooter Brown's Tavern and join a sour beer dinner at Boucherie.

Petroski is a member of New Belgium's wood cellar team, which oversees the barrel-aging program and foeders (enormous barrels) that make up its sour program. He's been with the cellar team for seven years and says, "Making some of the best beers out there is a fulfilling way to make ends meet."

New Orleans' New Belgium rep Buck Brown says, "I love that we offer this program and we can engulf him in New Orleans culture. The dinner is going to be great, too. The Boucherie crew is so fun and innovative."

On Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 7 p.m.-9 p.m. at The Avenue Pub, Petroski and Brown will pour New Belgium Loves Felix, a blonde sour ale aged in oak foeders. It is blended in various proportions in many of New Belgium’s sour wood-aged beers and aged with cherries in barrels from Denver distillery Leopold Brothers.

On Thursday, Oct. 16 starting at 7 p.m., Boucherie hosts a beer-pairing dinner with New Belgium's La Folie, Snapshot, Transatlantic Kriek, Yuzu and Le Terroir. Petroski will be on hand to discuss brewing at New Belgium and his work in the wood cellar program. The dinner includes five courses and five accompanying beers and costs $65. Contact the restaurant for reservations.

On Friday, Oct. 17, Petroski and Brown bring the Tripple, New Belgium Loves Blackberry Oscar and one other beer to be announced to Cooter Brown's Snooty Cooter from 8 p.m.-10 p.m. There will be games and the opportunity to win New Belgium swag and prizes.

New Belgium hosts a beer dinner (Brown will attend) on Oct. 22 at Galatoire's 33 Bar and Steak. For $65, there are hors d'oeuvres and many of New Belgium's flagship beers paired with courses such as Buffalo quail, black lager-braised short ribs and baked brie with candied ginger. Several of the dishes are prepared with the beers that will be served alongside them. Call (504) 525-6022 for reservations.
