For all its familiar pop leanings, Brass Bed has relied on its unpredictability, its knack for discovery and surprise over the course of its six year-career, whether in its three full-length albums or offbeat tributes to Harry Nilsson and collaborations with Lafayette brethren Feufollet. The Lafayette-New Orleans band's colorful psych-pop and kaleidoscopic garage rock throws back to Big Star's jangly '70s power-pop or Brian Wilson's sunny studio operas, all with a hefty dose of big guitars and crooked grin lyrics. It reached critical mass with 2013's The Secret Will Keep You (Crossbill Records), a red flag from Lafayette that showed off that the region's youthful musical resurgence wasn't limited to Cajun music.

Now the band offers a glimpse at its next act, a full-length record due in 2015. The band celebrates the recent 7" single from MA'AM Records ("Be Anything"/"Mind the Gap") at Publiq House (4528 Freret St.) at 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22. Kid Carsons open.

The latest batch of songs were recorded by Chris Woodhouse (who has helmed current garage saviors Thee Oh Sees and Ty Segall, and engineered Wild Flag's single self-titled masterpiece), and the tracks master blissed out harmony-filled pop ("Be Anything") and dreamy krautrock-tinged '90s indie rock ("Mind the Gap").
