NOLA Brewing
will become the first brewery to team up with a Mardi Gras krewe to release a beer with its upcoming collaboration with the Krewe of Muses.

Muses is the popular all-woman krewe that rides the Thursday before Mardi Gras and is well-known for its hand-decorated shoe throws. It rolls Feb. 12, 2015.

The Muses organization also works throughout the year through to support local non-profits and endeavors, and with the  collaboration with NOLA Brewing, a portion of the proceeds of the beer will benefit local women's advocacy group Women With A Vision.

The beer itself will be a session-strength Belgian style beer, which will combine the fruity characteristics of Belgian yeast with the citrus aromatics of the hops. At 4.4% ABV, this easy drinking beer will be perfect for drinking all through the parades this Mardi Gras season. You'll need to fill up some growlers at NOLA Brewing's tap room to take to the parade route, however, because the Muses beer will be available on draft only.

The release party is on Twelfth Night (Tuesday, January 6) at NOLA Brewery's taproom (3001 Tchoupitoulas St., (504) 896-9996). The event is free to the public for patrons over the age of 21. NOLA Brewing staff and Muses leaders will be on hand to discuss the beer and the work it will be supporting.

NOLA Brewing has used its beer to support local nonprofit organizations before. In 2014, the brewery released its Rebirth Pale Ale to support The Roots of Music to great success.

“The Krewe of Muses parade has taken New Orleans Mardi Gras by storm," says NOLA Brewing CEO Kirk Coco. "A lesser-known aspect of the Krewe is their philanthropic goals of raising awareness and funds for many issues through a nonprofit arm of their organization. We are pleased to team with this non-profit to help raise money and awareness for their yearly efforts.”

(Of note to local revelers: the brewery has a newly opened parking lot on its property on the corner of 8th St. and St. Thomas St.)
