Both New Orleans Bulldog locations will serve rare brews at beer events this week, and quantities are limited, so get there early.

The Mid-City Bulldog (5135 Canal Blvd., 504-488-4191) hosts Sour In the City at 6 p.m. Thursday. Four unique styles of sour beer will be tapped.

Tilquin Gueuze is a traditional Belgian gueuze style, a spontaneously fermented blend of several new and aged lambics. Tilquin’s gueuze is an excellent representation of the style, and it is refreshingly tart. The second beer on tap is Kentucky brewery Against the Grain’s Kamen Knuddlen, inspired by the bourbon-making process with multiple grains in the mash. It is soured into a dark, spicy, sour beer with a dry finish. The crisp, salty, coriander-spiced gose style is represented by Off Color Brewing’s Troublesome Gose, and the fourth brew is Old Money barrel-aged imperial sour stout from Mississippi's Lazy Magnolia Brewing.

“[We] came up with this event to showcase some unique sour brews," says Jeremy Byrne from the Mid-City Bulldog. "Sours are new and the next big step for the beer nerd in all of us.”

At 7 p.m. Saturday, February 28, The Bulldog Uptown (3236 Magazine St., 504-891-1516) will pour from rare kegs of dark beer during its Blackest Night event. The lineup of special beers includes Lazy Magnolia’s Old Money, Parish Brewing’s hard-to-find Imperial Reserve stout, North Coast Brewing’s barrel-aged Old Rasputin, Evil Twin Brewing’s Imperial Biscotti Natale (fermented with cherries) and the popular but hard-to-find Bourbon County Brand Stout by Goose Island.
