Restaurant news: Oxalis debuts late-night menu, Dot’s Diner hosts food drive to benefit Humane Society

Bywater hotspot Oxalis (3162 Dauphine St., 504-267-4776; www.oxalisbywater.com) is debuting a late-night food menu at their courtyard bar The Branch starting today, July 2.

The new food menu will be available at the restaurant’s candlelit bar Thursdays through Saturdays from 11:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. Diners can expect a host of rotating specials, including a fried chicken night on Thursdays featuring $3 shots of Jameson. 

Commander’s Palace (1403 Washington Ave., 504-899-8221; www.commanderspalace.com) is launching a barbecue and beer dinner series. The Lower Garden District restaurant is offering its five-course White Table Cloth BBQ dinner throughout July featuring Southern-inspired courses that can be paired with local craft beers from Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi.

The dinner menu ($65 per person) begins with oysters served on the half-shell paired with a cane vinegar and includes elevated barbecue-inspired dishes including smokehouse spare ribs served with confit duroc pork, baked corona beans, pickled watermelon cucumbers and cornbread made with pork fat and dressed with molasses.

Desert includes a peach and sweet tea cake served with sweet tea sorbet, BBQ chicken cracklin's and a Southern Comfort custard. Beer pairings can be added for $20. For more information visit the restaurant’s website.

Remoulade (309 Bourbon St., 504-523-0377; www.remoulade.com), Arnaud's more casual French Quarter restaurant, is offering dining and drink deals featuring a host of shrimp dishes as part of their Summer of Shrimp summer program. The Bourbon Street restaurant will feature a daily special where diners can order a featured shrimp dish and receive a complimentary specialty cocktail from 11:30 a.m to 6 p.m.

Menu items include shrimp Arnaud paired with a South Side Smash and a shrimp bisque served with a tequila cocktail made with lime, ginger beer and Creme de Mure.

Metairie tapas restaurant Vega Tapas Cafe (2051 Metairie Road, Metairie, 504-836-2007; www.vegatapascafe.com) is bringing back the annual  summertime “Tour of the Mediterranean” dinner series. Beginning on Monday, July 6, the Spanish restaurant will feature four-course dinners for $35 per person, including a complimentary drink. Countries featured in the eight-week series include Israel, Greece, Morocco, Italy, Egypt, France, Tunisia and Spain.

Dot’s Diner (citywide, www.dotsdiner.com) is partnering with the Humane Society of Louisiana to launch a citywide pet food and supply drive. Diners can donate dry or canned pet food and other pet supplies at any of the six Dot's Diner restaurants and receive a 20 percent off their meal.

The benefit lasts through July, culminating in a raffle on July 31 in which participants can win one of several prizes including a 20-inch boy’s BMX bike from Magazine Street’s Mike the Bike Guy.
