Presidential candidate/Gov. Bobby Jindal may have spent his July 4 weekend stumping in Iowa before heading to New Hampshire — just check out his Instagram — but back home, some not-so-supporters are planning to give him the Friars Club/Comedy Central treatment: a roast, or, in this case, a boil, with nearly a dozen comics and an appearance by the crawfish himself.

New Orleans comics Paul Oswell and Benjamin Hoffman are putting on "Crawfish 2016: A Boil of Bobby Jindal" at AllWays Lounge July 25 at 7:30 p.m. and promising "special out of town guests and great local comics" for a free show (with free ice cream) for their own presidential candidate, a crawfish:

Race, gender, religious and political beliefs, biological genus – these things should not divide us. They should ENCOURAGE us. To speak, to join, to hold hands/claws as one and intelligently debate, but never brawl. Years and years of bureaucratic spats have categorically divided our citizens into separate schools of thought, incapable of unity, but #WeAreOne. #WeAreAllAmerica, and Crawfish believes that we can become one People again. #OneNationUnderClaws.
The performing lineup includes Oswell (as host) and Hoffman, along with Jake Potter, Chris Lane, Kaitlin Marone. Isaac Kozell, Julie Mitchell, Andrew Healan, Ben Wisdom. Nick Pupo and Tom Feeney. The group's percentage of bar sales for the night will be donated to the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana.

The roast is a spinoff of a spoof Facebook campaign called "Can This Crawfish Get More Supporters Than Bobby Jindal?"  That campaign began at the end of May, before Jindal declared his own presidential campaign, and so far the answer to the question is no — 25,000 likes for the crawfish, 260,000 for the governor. And while Jindal is poking fun at his Indian heritage with the slogan "Tanned. Rested. Ready," #Crawfish2016 is "Red. Boiled. Ready."

Oswell and Hoffman promise this is only the first event for the crawfish.

Jindal's campaign team didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
