New Orleans funk band Galactic released its eighth studio album, Into the Deep, on Provogue Records on July 17. The album spans influences from its 20-year history, from its jazz-backed funk to electronic music, and includes artists like Mavis Staples, JJ Grey,  David Shaw of The Revivalists, Maggie Koerner and others. Stream the decidedly laid-back R&B title track, featuring Macy Gray:
New Orleans songwriter Joe Kile recently released Miles of Smiles on cassette, produced by Lonely Lonely Knights bassist Lefty Parker. The album's spare and fragile folk and slow-motion, lo-fi pop is filled with quiet psychedelic sounds, fuzzy guitars and bluesy piano. Listen to "Can't" below:

Blues slinger Colin Lake makes his Louisiana Red Hot Records debut with One Thing That's For Sure. Watch Lake perform the title track in a live video recorded on Bayou St. John:
Garage rockers Lonely Lonely Knights recently released its self-titled album, a fat blast of smoldering soul and wild-eyed rock 'n' roll with crunchy, crusty guitars and howling vocals. Stream the album here and listen to the minor key rockabilly of "So Over the Shape I'm In" below: On The Revivalists' latest album Men Amongst Mountains, out July 17, the band grows its funk- and roots-influenced rock to Maroon 5-sized pop. The band hosts an album release show at 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 1 at Tipitina's.
Singer-songwriter James Rose released his "Sun Rays/Breathe" single, featuring his Elliot Smith-influenced psychedelic folk-pop. Listen to "Sun Rays" below:
Tyler Scurlock — formerly of anthemic rock operatists Sun Hotel and currently one-third of the Yo La Tengo-inspired Keeping — is the tinkerer behind Sharks' Teeth, his electronic circuit-bending pop experiment. He recently released a split cassette with Texas' SomeBodyParts. Listen to "Tropic Orchid Damp" below:
