Each week this summer, the New Orleans Exercist brings you news and events for active living in the Big Easy. Here’s one of the best things about this town: no sweat judgement. New Orleanians do not laugh and point at the guy with wet pits and a basketball-sized damp patch on the back of his shirt. There but for the grace of A/C go we.

What do these week’s events have in common, you ask? No air conditioning. There will be sweat:

- The Lafitte Greenway bike and pedestrian path is nearly complete, Mid-City Messenger reports. An organization called FitLot plans to install a community fitness park – like an outdoor playground for adults – near the Greenway and the Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center.

- Need a break from your paleo diet? The Northshore’s CrossFit 1606 hosts a community workout, brewery tour and beer tasting at Gnarly Barley Brewing (1709 Corbin Road, Hammond, 985-318-0723; tomorrow (Aug. 15). Bring water, a jump rope and $5. The first 75 attendees get a free T-shirt to replace the one they just sweat through.

- Oak Street Yoga hosts yoga in the courtyard at Phillips Bar & Restaurant (733 Cherokee St., 504-865-1155; at 6 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 18). Five bucks buys you admission, watermelon salad and an aqua fresca, assuming that yoga on the ground at a college bar isn’t any kind of turn-off for you.

- New Orleans Track Club holds a late-summer edition of its All-Comers Cross Country Meet on Wednesday (Aug. 19) at Lafreniere Park (3000 Downs Blvd., Metairie; Everyone is welcome to run or walk the grass course with a $5 entry fee.

- Hooping instructor Julie Merritt of JulieHooping begins a new season of hoop dance classes on Thursday (Aug. 20) at the Canal Boulevard Baptist Deaf Church (5320 Canal Blvd.; It costs $15 per class, or $60 for six sessions. Save $10 when you sign up with a friend, and earn it all back after you both run away to join the circus.
