In case you haven’t had your fill yet of Hurricane Katrina anniversary news stories and media overload just yet, Lakeview’s Pizza Nola
(141 W. Harrison Ave., 504-872-0731) announced the rollout of its “Resilience Collection
” – a trio of satirically named gelato concoctions referencing the storm, the failure of federal flood protection and the political aftermath.
The gimmick, a reference Mayor Mitch Landrieu’s “Resilience Strategy
,” hints that the owners may have reached their limits with K10 activities.
“With all of the media coverage this week...everybody is on edge…we’re just on edge,” said owner Will Samuels. “We went through it 10 years ago and all this feels like overkill now…and then everything with the resilience thing… it’s just getting ridiculous.”
Samuels said he devised the names for the flavors and his wife developed the corresponding gelato combinations.
Flavors include the whimsically named Chocolate City, Heckuva Job, Brownie, and Toxic Soup, featuring gummy critters swimming around in caramel gelato sludge.
A blend of white and dark chocolate gelato interspersed with ribbons of chocolate.
Heckuva Job, Brownie:
Brownies and nuts, enough said.
The flavors join the existing 12 gelato types sold at Pizza Nola and will be available until supplies run out.
