Tchoupitoulas Beer Garden opens Saturday, and Hanson releases Mmmhops

Several local breweries and craft beer halls have opened in New Orleans in the last year, but Tchoupitoulas Beer Garden (840 Tchoupitoulas St.) seems to be the only one to have a menu of boilermakers. Its upscale shot-and-a-beer combos include Four Rose's small batch bourbon and Bayou Teche Cocodrie and the "Fancy Hobo," a shot of Chartreuse and a can of Stiegl Grapefruit Radler.

The German-style beer garden holds an opening party from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, and a portion of proceeds benefits Cafe Recondile, the Central City restaurant offering culinary and service industry training to young people.

Tchoupitoulas Beer Garden serves German beers and American craft beers, including Covington Kolsch and NOLA Brewing's Irish Channel Stout on draft. The food menu features small plates, sausages, hot dogs, flatbreads and charcuterie. The opening night menu is after the jump.

Fans of Hanson probably were too young to drink when the band released its 10 million-selling album Middle of Nowhere in 1997. The band is still together, — and released an album in 2013 — and it performs at House of Blues Thursday and Friday. The band members launched a craft brewery, and the tour is part of a promotion in the release of its first beer, Mmmhops. The beer is available in a few markets in the Midwest and Disney's Epcot in Florida as well as online. Taylor Hanson spoke to Gambit here.
