  • Pell's Limbo is out Nov. 6.

— an up-and-coming rapper who grew up in New Orleans, lived in Mississippi after the 2005 levee failures, and is on a studio-hopping, genre-eating trip digesting a number of influences and studio time — will release his anticipated follow-up to the acclaimed 2014 head trip Floating While Dreaming next month. Limbo is out Nov. 6, and he's teased its release with a few singles, including "Cafe Du Monde," powered by a distorted synth-bass, and the low-key bongo funk of "Queso."

Gearing up for his 2015 Buku Music + Art Project appearance earlier this year, Pell told Gambit, "I'm going to get into a lot more storytelling, now that I have a lot more stories to tell. ... I'm going to have stories to share with people that will relate to people a little bit more than Floating While Dreaming, and hope to get people to understand who I am." On "Almighty Dollar," which premiered on Consequence of Sound and was produced by TV on the Radio's Dave Sitek, Pell balances his paper chasing dreams while waiting for a direct deposit, keeping his mom's pantry stocked and trying to put gas in the car. Bounce's queen diva Big Freedia launched a tour this week with New Orleans performance art-rapper Boyfriend and Seattle dream-pop project Hibou — seemingly disparate artists but all sharing, likely, a similar audience. Hibou remixed Freedia's signature "Excuse," putting a hip sheen and whispered vocals on the new bounce classic. Listen to the song, via The Fader, below:
