What do knights wear to work out? Under Armour. (Sorry.) Learn to be a literal weekend warrior with medieval fighting club Ordo Procinctus on Sunday (Jan. 10). If your tastes are more contemporary, there are barre activities, free swimming and a distance race this week. 'Tis the season for January specials:

- Dancing Grounds’ (3705 St. Claude Ave., (504) 535-5791; $5 class week is back today through Saturday (Jan. 4-16). Better hustle.

- Even better than $5: low-impact Aquafit classes for adults are free at Love Swimming (5221 S. Front St., 504-891-4662; through Friday (Jan. 4-8). It’s indoor, heated saltwater and you don’t even have to know how to swim. And did I mention: free?

- Get in the loop with a free hoop dancing demo class from Hey Now Hooping on Wednesday (Jan. 6) at Broadmoor Arts & Wellness Center (3900 Gen. Taylor St.). It’s $13 per weekly class thereafter.

- Air Blow Dry Bar and Salon (1111 N. Causeway Blvd, Mandeville, 985-626-1402; holds a “barre hop” on Thursday (Jan. 7). Is it a “barre hop” because it is at a blow dry “bar”? Or is it because you wear socks, like a sock hop? Only one way to find out.

- You may have only heard of the barre craze recently, but Pure Barre celebrates its five year anniversary this week. The Magazine Street location (3923 Magazine St., 504-342-2208; holds a birthday party with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live music, giveaways and special deals on Thursday (Jan. 7).

- NOTC’s Larry Fuselier 25K race runs along the lakefront on Sunday (Jan. 10). If 25K sounds exactly five times too difficult, there’s also a 5K distance. Non-member registration for the 25K is $35 tonight, or $40 starting tomorrow.

Bring boxing gloves, a snack and whatever else you’ll need to “cover the basics for Longsword, Boxing and Clench fighting.” Coolest. Profile. Photo. Ever.
