Bruce Campbell, fan films, Captain America and more events at Comic Con

The 2016 Wizard World Comic Con — the pop culture convention's sixth annual New Orleans pitstop — begins today at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center. There's a spread of celebrity guests, from Marvel movie superheroes to Doctor Who and The Walking Dead stars, and the showroom floor is full of trivial, niche pop cultural artifacts, from forgotten comic books and action figures to the latest in steampunk technology.

Then there are the panel discussions, film screenings and costume contests — a few of the highlights from each day are below. Find the full schedule here.

Friday, Jan. 8.

Paranormal Evidence Revealed
4:30 p.m.-5:15 p.m.
Room 294

The Paranormal Society of New Orleans plays voices of "spirits" its members recorded during paranormal investigations in the city. There's also a panel discussion and Q&A.

Cosability: Disabled and Proud
5:30 p.m.-6:15 p.m.
Room 294

The discussion shares costuming tips and experiences of cosplay for disabled people.

How to write comics
6 p.m.-6:45 p.m.
Room 296

Fred Van Lente (Marvel Zombies, Archer & Armstrong), Jimmy Palmiotti (Harley Quinn, The Monolith), Josh Layman (Chew, Batman Eternal) and others discuss how to write compelling stories for comics.

Drunktoons
7:30 p.m.-8:15 p.m.

The New Orleans-based live cartoon sketch comedy outfit performs.

Saturday, Jan. 9

Captain America: Civil War cast panel
10 a.m.-11 a.m.
New Orleans Theater

Filmmakers Anthony and Joseph Russo join the cast of the film to discuss the upcoming installment in the Marvel cinematic universe.

Ladies of the Legions
12:30 p.m.-1:15 p.m.

The panel discusses age- and gender-inclusive costuming groups and costume ideas in the Star Wars universe.

The Art of the Saturday Morning Cartoon
2 p.m.-2:45 p.m.

Animator Tom Cook — who animated Tarzan, Flash Gordon, He-Man and She-ra — discusses how he started in the industry and how animation departments bring illustrations to life. A Q&A follows.

The cult film star of the Evil Dead series hosts an audience Q&A.

Wizard World costume contest

Dozens of costumers — from Star Wars and Star Trek to comic book heroes and villains and beyond — compete in one of the most entertaining portions of the entire convention. Sure, you can scope out the over-the-top outfits and fan tributes on the show floor, but here they really ham it up.

Screen Junkies presents: Honest Screnning of Captain America: Winter Soldier
7:30 p.m.-9 p.m.

The Screen Junkies crew hosts a live, uncensored commentary-filled screening of the film with directors Anthony and Joseph Russo.

Sunday, Jan. 10

Wizard World welcomes the star of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Star Trek fan films

There are screenings and discussions of fan-made Star Trek films.

A kid-friendly edition of the costume contest for children age 13 and under.
