New Orleanians understand priorities, which is why there is not one but three fitness events themed around king cake this weekend. Mardi Gras is all about balance — on top of a parade ladder, a Clydesdale or whatever else your drunk ass shouldn’t have climbed. Be careful up there:

- Christ Episcopal School in Covington holds a King Cake 5K and Fun Run on Saturday (Jan. 30). There’s also an after-party and costume contest. Promise me you will not dress as the Pelicans’ king cake baby. Promise.

- The Crescent City Blues Rugby Football Club plays the Montgomery Yellowhammers Rugby Football Club at 1 p.m. Saturday at the corner of Marconi and Zachary Taylor drives in City Park. This is an event you watch, not one you participate in, but hey, it’s not like rugby players are going to notice a couple extra people charging around the field, right?

- This weekend’s King Cake Festival at Champions Square also includes a one-mile fun run and a “Gladiator Games” fitness challenge ahead of 11 a.m. general admission on Sunday (Jan. 31). It’s sponsored by Smoothie King, so the top male and female finishers win a year of free smoothies (at a rate of one smoothie per week), which is sure to take care of any calories you don’t immediately devour in king cake.

- Lycra temple Lululemon Athletica holds a grand opening events for its new location at Lakeside Shopping Center (3301 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Metairie, 504-833-5053; this weekend. There’s makeup and refreshments on Saturday and chair massages, juice shots and City Surf workout demos on Sunday. Or just show up first thing on Friday for... you guessed it, king cake.

- Difficult backpacking brand GORUCK is back with a “Tough Challenge” on Feb. 5 and a “Light Challenge” on Feb. 6. Registration will run you a hefty $105 each.
