The fourth album from Louisiana's preeminent rock 'n' rollers Brass Bed (Lafayette brethren Jonny Campos, Peter DeHart and Christiaan Mader) makes its streaming debut via NPR. (Listen below.)

The band — influenced equally by Harry Nilsson, Big Star, psychedelic relics and krautrock atmospherics — gleefully, wittily smudged its songwriting with blurry pop and fuzz-covered rockers for its 2013 breakthrough The Secret Will Keep You, which shook the band's power-pop and psychedelic foundation for In the Yellow Leaf's wrestling matches with despair, regret and the kinds of self-mockery and self-awareness that comes with age, romance and often-painful nostalgia.

Helmed by producer Chris Woodhouse (Ty Segall, Thee Oh Sees), the album, like the band's live show, is an energetic, refined feedback balancing act for its more-delicate songs and harmonies — from the guitar hook on the pummeling single "I Am Just a Whisper" and harmonies stacked over the deadly twang on "More than You Can Imagine" to the quiet-loud meltdown on "Figure It Out." Album closer "Keep On" earnestly — and likely with cheek — leans on the phrase "keep on keepin' on," a fitting toast for the band's finest hour yet.

The band headlines an album release show with New Orleans alt-country band Coyotes at Gasa Gasa at 10 p.m. Thursday, April 14. Tickets $12.
