I have a hard time saying Gland is the best punk band in New Orleans without saying it's the best punk band in America. Gland makes fun, loud, short, addictive and destructive punk with an ear for pop melody like '90s outfits Tiger Trap and Bratmobile.

The debut full-length album, Neurotica, from the punk trio is out now on clear cassette via New Orleans-based punk label Community Records. Gland teased its release with its 2015 three-song Ambiancé EP, horribly, wonderfully recorded live on an iPhone. Neurotica's nine songs race through two- or three-chord blasts meeting wobbly, Del Shannon-like organ riffs and twangy, sing-along surf ("Beekeeper," "DREAM") or glammy doo-wop ("Safe Space").

On April 1, Gland played to a packed house for Sisters In Christ's "closing show" at Gasa Gasa before the record shop moved into its store on Magazine Street — the band's first show was just a little over a year before that. We put them in last year's Music Issue as one of our new favorites. "One of the things we decided was that we weren't going to sing any love songs, any breakup songs," Kallie Van Tassel told Gambit last year. "If we have songs about boys, it's political. Not all the songs are political. There's a song about being really depressed. One is a made-up story about summoning a demon."

The band performs tonight at 10 p.m. at Siberia opening for The Coathangers with Mea Culpa and Yikes. The band also performs a free show at the Alvar Library at 6 p.m. Saturday, May 7.
