The New Orleans Zephyrs has released the finalists in its competition to rename the minor-league baseball team. The organization asked the public for suggestions, then whittled that list down to seven options — perhaps a wise tactic, considering recent crowdsourced renaming fiascos such as the Boaty McBoatface incident.

But did the organization itself choose wisely? Well...
The potential team names' associations range from predictable ("The New Orleans Po'Boys") to the oblique ("The New Orleans Red Eyes," apparently a nod to crawfish and not our weed habit). "The New Orleans Baby Cakes," with its king cake-related tie-in, may inspire a new mascot as frightening as the New Orleans Pelicans' King Cake Baby — or perhaps his reign of terror will just continue into baseball season.

The list of names is below, with full explanations on the Zephyrs website. Voting begins tomorrow and continues through July 8.

New Orleans Baby Cakes
New Orleans Cajun Crawfish
New Orleans King Cakes
New Orleans Night Owls
New Orleans Po'boys
New Orleans Red Eyes
New Orleans Tailgators
