The National Underwear Day parade and attempt to set a Guinness World Record for the most people wearing only underwear is changing location. The event now begins and ends at Castillo Blanco (4321 t. Claude Ave.), home to the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus. The record count lineup is at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 5. At 7 p.m., the parade proceeds on Poland Avenue to Burgundy Street. It turns onto Louisa Street and returns via N. Rampart Street and Poland Avenue to Castillo Blanco.

National Underwear Day was declared by an underwear maker. The New Orleans parade was founded by Ryan Ballard, co-founder of the Intergalactic Krewe of Chewbacchus, and Xena Zeitgeist, founder of Society of Sin burlesque troupe. The parade has a royal couple in king Chris Leonard, Executive Director of New Orleans Pride, and queen Trixie Minx. It is free to participate in the parade and after party. Organizers are encouraging attendees to bring a donation of new underwear, which will go to the New Orleans Mission.

The August calendar has several events and parades for those wanting to costume or dress for the heat. More events after the jump.

White Linen Night is Saturday, Aug. 6 in the Warehouse District. Museums and galleries open and there is food and drink on Julia Street from 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The event is a fundraiser for the Contemporary Arts Center, which will preview shows in its 40th season at its after party (admission $10), which features DJ Matty.

Red Dress Run is Aug. 13. New Orleans' chapter of the Hash House Harriers holds runs throughout the year. The Red Dress Run is a fundraiser in which participants wear red dresses and run, walk or stroll a two-mile course. There's a party in Armstrong Park featuring music by the The Topcats and The Mixed Nuts. Visit the website for registration details. Proceeds go to local nonprofits and organizations. More than $165,000 was donated in 2015.

Dirty Linen Night is Saturday, Aug. 13. The response by French Quarter artists and galleries to White Linen Night is in its 15th year. The event stretches from the 200 block to the 1000 block of Royal Street. There are food trucks, bands, gallery openings and more.

Krewe of OAK Mid-Summer Mardi Gras is Aug. 27. The krewe and costumed revelers and marching groups gather on Oak Street at the Maple Leaf Bar and parade to Palmer Park. The group marks its 30th parade with the theme "Get Wet." The krewe holds its ball at the Maple Leaf after the event.
