The Krewe of Tucks lets it all hang out in a fun, irreverent way. The krewe revels in potty humor, and its parade "Tucks Happens," beginning at noon Saturday on the Uptown route, celebrates local landmarks and institutions. A peek at its poo emoji, decorated plungers and other throws is after the jump.

Muses and Chaos parades roll Uptown

  • Muses' Dr. Seuss-inspired theme included "Mayor McShiney McSheen and His Resilience Machine."

As the Knights of Babylon's typically gorgeous, floral-covered renderings of its mythical pantheon floated down St. Charles Avenue, the Knights of Chaos were not far behind, sending its satirical shrapnel in every direction.

Each float played on New Orleans street names for its "Chaos in the Streets" theme. The krewe delights in skewering elected (and unelected) officials, from the New Orleans City Council-as-egotistical muses to a bloodbath-y "Blue Dog"-led float covered in the faces of Democrats (Blue Dog wore a sticker: "I Voted For Trump"). On "Skid Row," Hillary Clinton was the "guest speaker" at a homeless shelter, bombarded with emails as she held a "will speak for food" sign. Irvin Mayfield's jazz market fiasco ("Music Street") and Mike Yenni's sexting scandal ("Desire Street") — presented on a float with a pole dancer in a Jesuit unfiorm — also were targets.

Over 2900 women and 42 floats strong, The Mystic Krewe of Nyx rolled uptown Wednesday night. The parade theme, "Dancing the Night Away," was fitting, since almost every float played music from different musical genres for the riders to dance to as the parade wound its way from Magazine and Jefferson to the Convention Center.

Krewe of Druids paraded in Uptown

The Mystic Krewe of Druids doesn't announce its theme in advance of the parade, and typically it offers dry wit or wry commentary on theme floats, but the group also can't help but grind a few axes and it's always amusing to see what it'll do.

"Druids' Olympics" had some entertaining takes on local icons and recurring grievances. One of the early theme floats featured the "SWB Discus Throw" with a sculpture of the city's iconic water meter plates. There also was a "Crime Camera Dash," with a replica of one of the city's growing number of cameras on the front of the float. There also was a "Po-boy Eating Contest" float with a giant po-boy on front.

Krewe of Muses introduces rubber duck floats

Posted By on Wed, Feb 22, 2017 at 2:37 PM

Members of the Krewe of Muses have tossed rubber ducks to parade spectators for years. The krewe hopes to supersize the ducks' popularity with a new signature float, which will debut on the Uptown parade route Thursday night.

"The rubber ducks have been really popular," said krewe captain Staci Rosenberg. "So many women (in the krewe) have young kids, we thought this would be popular with families."

Muses joins a small group of superkrewes that field multi-trailer floats in their parades. Orpheus has the Smokey Mary train float and Leviathan. Endymion introduced its nine-trailer Pontchartrain Beach float in 2013. Muses' ducks feature one larger mother duck and three smaller ducks. They will be hitched to the krewe's signature bathtub float, and the entire chain is 160 feet long. The mother duck will carry 14 riders, and each of the smaller ducks will carry 10.

As the corporate-branded fog over the French Quarter begins to clear, we find a graveyard of Popeyes boxes, broken beads and daiquiri-clutching partiers waking from the peaceful slumber that follows a week of near-belligerence to news that Boogie is coming to New Orleans. Also this week: The Hoy Boys reunite... with Guy Fieri, and Master P transcends incredible levels of petty over the Falcons' loss in the Super Bowl.

  • The St. Augustine Marching 100 led the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale parade.

Sunday was busy on the Uptown parade route, as floats, themes and guests included everything from Monty Python quotes to guest riding nuns and NBA moms to military veterans and many of the area's school marching bands. The Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale kicked off the procession on Napoleon Avenue at 11 a.m. and was followed by the krewes of Carrollton, King Arthur and Alla on the slightly longer route starting at Jefferson Avenue and Magazine Street.

Mothers of NBA all-stars, in town for the league's all-star game Sunday night, rode on one of the first floats in the Femme Fatale parade. They were soon followed by nuns from the Sisters of the Holy Spirit, who each wore a T-shirt with an inspirational message or statement of devotion.
