13 Tzameti

A Quentin Tarantino-style fast-and-mean underworld meets Shirley Jackson's The Lottery in 13 Tzameti, a thriller in which a young immigrant in France stumbles into a very dangerous game. While trying to support his family, Sebastien steals a ticket to what he thinks is more than fair payment for an overdue debt, but on his way to claim it he finds that he's delved into an underground gambling ring set on a high stakes game of Russian roulette. With his stolen invitation to become contestant 13, there's little he can do but trust his luck. Director Gela Babluani won the Venice Film Festival's best first feature award and a grand jury prize at Sundance for the critically acclaimed film. Tickets $6 general admission, $5 students/seniors/unemployed, $4 members. -- Will Coviello
