2012 Domaine de La Sangliere Cuvee Speciale Rose

In the 6th century B.C., the Phoenicians began cultivating grapevines in the territory that became Provence. Today the area is composed of 84 noncontiguous communes from Marseilles to Nice. La Sangliere's estate covers 100 acres and has soils with clay, shale and schist components on the ridges and hilltops overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Grapes for this blend of 70 percent cinsault and 30 percent grenache were harvested in the cool of the night, crushed and cold macerated for two hours. The juice was quickly separated so the wine would not pick up too much of the skin color, and it was fermented in stainless steel tanks. In the glass, the salmon-colored wine offers green tea, stone fruit and floral aromas. On the palate, taste tart raspberry, cranberry, herbal and spice notes, balanced acidity and pleasant minerality on the finish.
