2013 Chateau de Flaugergues Les Comtes Rose

Languedoc, France

Retail $14

The best dry roses offer a delicate fragrance, understated flavors, low alcohol and mouthwatering acidity. From their chateau in nearby Montpellier, France, father and son winemakers Henri and Pierre de Colbert produced this bottling. Located on the eastern side of the Languedoc-Roussillon region on the Mediterranean coast, the property has been the site of winemaking since the Romans planted vines more than 2,000 years ago. A blend of 55 percent grenache noir, 40 percent syrah and 5 percent cinsault, this well-structured wine's enticing aromas of flowers, fresh-picked berries, a hint of melon and touch of spice lead into raspberry and strawberry fruit flavors with some herbal touches and excellent minerality on the dry, acid-balanced finish. Drink it with salads, seafood, egg dishes, cheeses, vegetables, game, grilled meats and spicy Asian, Cajun, Indian and Mexican dishes. Buy it at: Sidney's Wine Cellar. Drink it at: Cafe Minh. — BRENDA MAITLAND
