9-11/9-11 and Last Things

NOMA hosts a screening of two short films and a discussion with the filmmakers. Mel Chin's film draws comparisons between the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center in New York with events exactly 28 years prior in Chile, when the military overthrew the government of President Salvador Allende. Local filmmaker Ivor Shearer created his film Last Things (pictured) about New Orleans after Katrina, actually well after Katrina in a forsaken area where residents live a hard and bleak existence scavenging for food and basic necessities. After the film, Chin and Shearer will address the topic of making art about profoundly affecting disasters. Free admission. — Will Coviello
