Re: “Was the Hummingbird Grill open on St. Charles Avenue in 1972?

My sister Karen LaHaie lived with Harry in 1961 in a cheesy apartment in the back of the resturant,I came from Florida to live with Him and my half sister for a bit, I worked in the resturant a short time as clean up and then as a fry cook, later I worked for Harry and another guy named Louie Maltry in the little bookstore next to and under the Hotel where I stayed. Harry was nice to me but when he run my sister off for another gal he got pregnent, Harry kicked me out into the streets . I was 14 years old. I hopped in a car with a couple of kids from Calif and we wound up in Laffiettee, Where I went to work on the gas pipeline and done fairly well in life,it was all part of my life to be there,People may think Glamour and color was the presence of the day but that place was a hell hole and nasty. We caught tons of rats and mice in the back of the kitchen every night.Have been back to the spot later in years and the original hotel and grill is a parking lot,so glad to see it gone, It was a very tramuatic time for myself that year, Gary Rose
