Whether you live in Sydney, New Orleans or Santa Fe our bodies have a hard job adjusting to the increasingly long sedentary hours of our work. In our more primitive life epochs we used to squat rather than sit. This naturally decompressed the base of the spine by pulling the spinal segments apart. We squatted to have a chat, to work, to cook, to have babies, to go to the lavatory and simply to rest ~ all of which benefited the base of the spine by dragging more water into the discs and making them better cushions between the vertebrae.
