What price do you put on customer safety. Is regulation put in place to secure monopolies, no. Regulations come into play over years, with fluctuating changes. Uber style disruptive technology gives the illusion of giving the public choice. The long term effects are actually quite destructive. Taxi drivers will switch from operator to operator, working longer hours with much higher overheads, such as higher quality vehicles and having to pay percentages to the app designers and investors. Customers are not seeing fares dramatically reduced, in fact probably seeing fare increases in the long term. The real winners are the money men, the losers taxi drivers.
