Re: “Is New Orleans worth it?

This is so depressing to read, I visited Nola last year and loved it- but this is a problem that is happening all across the country, in cities both rich and poor. I grew up in San Francisco, another once laid-back, bohemian, musical city- its now the most expensive in country. All my friends have moved away, the culture that made it such a great place is all but a hollowed-out shell. Now I live in Oakland across the Bay, once affordable to the working class, but living costs are now pushing out the longtime residents as well. The Tech industry has brought in a lot of very high paying jobs and specialized technical people to the Bay Area, so the gentrification at least has a root cause, but New Orleans?? Where is this new money coming from where people are affording these housing prices? What are they doing for work? It would truly break my heart to see New Orleans go the same way of my hometown- don't let it happen!
