Beneath the Strata/Disappearing

A Studio in the Woods is the perfect setting for ArtSpot Productions' new show, Beneath the Strata/Disappearing, an organic performance art/theater event exploring the balance between nature and human culture, as the building of cities and levees have changed the landscape and in so doing made the culture of their founders more vulnerable to the ravages of a natural event such as Hurricane Katrina. A Studio in the Woods is an artist retreat on 8 acres of forest on the West Bank. Performers include dancers Ausettua Amor Amenkum, Stephanie McKee (pictured) and Beverly Trask, actors Aja Becker, Lisa Shattuck, Nick Slie and Gabrielle Turner and Mardi Gras Indian Herreast Harrison of Guardians of the Flame. The piece is set in the forest among visual art installations with musical accompaniment by Sean LaRocca and Luther Gray. Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the forest setting. Tickets $10. -- Will Coviello

4 p.m. Sat.-Sun., Oct. 7-8; through Oct. 29
