Seventh-grade students at John Dibert Elementary School

researched, wrote and designed an environmental case study pamphlet about the City Park lagoons and Bayou St. John. The pamphlet, which describes how these waterways played a part in the city's development and what is being done to restore them, will be available at City Park's Parkview Cafe and on the park's Web site. The students began the project after attending a three-day outdoor seminar presented by Teaching Responsible Earth Education, a local science education organization.

Bill Chrisman,

director of capital projects for the city, told a city committee on May 21 that the pool at the John P. Lyons Memorial Center, a NORD facility, could reopen for children by the second week of June, despite damages copper thieves caused the pool's operating system. Four days later, NORD and the Capital Projects office sent out an email saying the pool wouldn't open until late summer. Police arrested the suspected thieves on April 21, so Chrisman had plenty of time to properly assess the damages. Only nine of 16 NORD pools will open this summer.
