The Historic New Orleans Collection

is offering free tours to active duty military members and their families through Labor Day weekend. It's part of the Blue Star Museums program, a partnership between Blue Star Families and the National Endowment for the Arts. The aim of the partnership is to show appreciation for military personnel by giving them free admission to more than 1,000 museums across the country.

The Hershey Company

included a day of service when it held its national sales meeting here in mid-May. More than 600 employees teamed with Rebuilding Together New Orleans to hang drywall, install windows and doors, plant trees and perform other volunteer duties for local homeowners. Rebuilding Together is a program of the Preservation Resource Center that serves low-income families and communities.

Road to the Gulf

will help rebuild four New Orleans parks during the National Conference on Volunteering & Service held here June 6-8. More than 150 members will restore Sam Bonart Park in the 9th Ward, along with Bunny Friend Park, Evans Park and Village de l'Est Park. The group also will clean and enhance 15 other area parks.

Peter Fonda,

the actor who co-produced the new pro-Gulf Coast, anti-BP documentary The Big Fix, held a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival where he told reporters, "I'm training my grandchildren to use long-range rifles. For what purpose? Well, I'm not going to say the words 'Barack Obama,' but ... ." Fonda's outrageous words completely overshadowed any message he could have hoped to convey about the ongoing Gulf oil disaster.
