The International School of Louisiana
was named one of two national recipients of the 2014 School Award for Exemplary Education of Young Men of Color by the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color. The award recognizes excellence in education practices that have helped increase graduation rates among young men of color.

Preservation Resource Center (PRC)
celebrated its 40th anniversary May 20. The organization was founded in 1974 and its programs promote and help rebuild New Orleans architecture and neighborhoods. The PRC has restored more than 1,500 properties, and its Rebuilding Together New Orleans program has rebuilt or rehabilitated hundreds of homes since it began in 1988.

received a 2014 Gabriel Award for its November 2013 story profiling Woody Morgan, a Tulane University medical school student who is paralyzed. The Catholic Academy of Communication Professionals' Gabriel Awards recognize television and radio programs that "entertain and enrich with a true vision of humanity and a true vision of life."

Sen. David Vitter
announced he would oppose the nomination of a new head to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services until provisions of the Affordable Care Act are overturned. The nomination of Sylvia Mathews Burwell received wide bipartisan support in the Senate and is expected to be confirmed, but at press time Vitter was the only senator to go on record that he would formally oppose it.
